Many Australian readers would know Steve Willis better by his on screen persona - The Commando - the hard military like trainer on this year's Australian Biggest Loser.
To see Steve in action check out these two videos.
We approached Steve to be interviewed for Success Junkie and many of you might note it's a slightly different interview to many of our others. Steve's an entrepreneur and he's also pivotal in helping others acheive success. Hope you enjoy!
Your method of inspiring the contestants on the Biggest Loser was notoriously more hard core and even stern some might say that some of the other trainers (take laid back Bob for example). Do your methods of working with people to achieve success in their physical wellbeing simply stem from your military background, is it just a TV persona or do you believe that style of training is the best way to get results?
The Military has played a large role in the physical capacity to which I train people and inspire them to succeed, the methods and stimulus that I employ are a mix of what I have personally found over time to elicit the greatest results. My approach is is simply moulded around (work capacity) or for a better word (intensity), Increase work capacity over broad time and modal domains, to achieve this we need functional movements that are constantly varied and executed at high intensity, from this everything will fall into place.
What three pieces of advice (or even steps to take) would you pass on to someone looking to achieve success in an area of their life (be if physical or otherwise)?
What is it you really want?
What are you going to have to do and sacrifice to achieve it?
Start applying the principles and strategies.
To achieve great things takes time, some things take longer than others, never give up how arduous it may seem, it is all worth it in the end. Success can be measured by what you are prepared to sacrifice along the way.
In looking at the most successful people you've worked with, what three to five characteristics do these people typically have?
They know what it is they want.
Know what they are going to have to do and sacrifice to achieve it.
An unrelenting drive both physically and mentally to achieve there goals regardless of the obstacles that stand in their way.
Today as humans we have forgotten what it is to be human, we want everything yesterday, if you want something fight for it, with simple planning and an unrelenting determination to succeed, you can have it.
